The Culture Ark

Since 2016, the Arche region of Kellerwald has now also had a real "Arche ship", which was created in cooperation with the Arche Association Kellerwald, Frankenau and the surrounding area and the city of Frankenau.

Inside there is a one-room exhibition. There, young and old can find out about topics such as old domestic animal breeds, extensive land use, biological diversity, product production and regional marketing. Many exhibition elements are designed to be interactive and encourage participation.

In 2022, with the help of the regional budget and the Region Kellerwald-Edersee e. V. expand the ark. The newly created platform and the steering wheel now make the ark unmistakable.

The Ark Path

The “Arche Adventure Trail” circular route begins directly at the Kultur-Arche. The approximately 7 km long route takes you along the pastures of various old farm animal breeds, through the Weidengrund and over the Mittelberg near Frankenau. Hardly anywhere else in Germany can you find so many old, native breeds of domestic animals in one place. Today they are presented in pasture paddocks, on heath and mountain pastures and along old meadows. They also help to preserve flower-colored meadows, poor grasslands and heaths.

The path is marked by the Arche sign. Information boards at the various stations give you further insights into the animal species and grazing.
