Route 1 runs past the Hunold quarry to the Stiedenbach, which flows into the Treisbach at the Lengelmühle and is called Lengelbach from there.
Route 1 runs largely parallel to the 2nd route of the Birkenhof hiking car park, but shortens the tour behind the Bingeberg. From both routes you can see the Hunold quarry, which is not open to the public and has been used to extract greywacke for road construction and the construction industry since the First World War. The rock is traversed by numerous fissured calcite, dolomite and anchorite dikes, some of which contain sulphides, and fossil plant remains occur frequently on the layered surfaces of the slate. You then take Route 1 directly to the Stiedenbach, which flows into the Treisbach at the Lengelmühle and is called the Lengelbach from there. Stiedenbach and Lengelbach once powered seven mills up to the mouth of the Eder and supplied them with water.
