The adventure moor path is located below the Kellerwald tower at the Wüstegarten. This was built by the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park.
The nature park worked on the moor path for several years; together with Hessen Forest, the paths were cleared and a boardwalk was built over the still wet areas. Even though the moor is suffering from ongoing drought and the consequences of climate change, a hike through the raised moor is definitely worth it, as there are some rare plant species and unique moor landscapes to discover. The moor path can be reached via the Kellerwaldsteig and explored on your own.
It starts at the “Kellerhute” hiking car park in Densberg. About halfway along the path you will reach the moor path. After you have crossed it, you will reach the highest point of the hike, namely the desert garden. It's worth climbing the Kellerwald tower here, with a great view of the entire region and far into Hesseland.
During the descent you can take a detour to the quartzite rocks “Exhelmer Stein” and the “Mausefalle”. The route takes you back to the hiking car park via the Höhenweg, the Bereisungsweg and the Kußschneise. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
As a result of the weather in recent years, the old beech stands in the Desert Garden area have been severely affected. Please note the information from Hessen Forst about closed paths. The route shown currently does not contain any path closures.
