The trail begins with a steep path leading up the castle hill and through part of the castle moat loop to the Löwenstein ruins with a snack bar. The "short loop" is 1,2 km long and essentially follows the "old" castle moat.
In snowy and wet weather, the steep path to the Löwenstein ruins can be bypassed to the left via the section "Waldweg" (parallel to the Kellerwaldsteig).
Upon arriving at the Löwenstein castle ruins, the climb to the 26-meter-high former defensive tower is rewarded with a fantastic view.
The trail then continues along the edge of the forest, passing the "Funkenstein" rock formation via the "Panoramablick" section, before reaching Bad Zwesten. Along the way, you can rest at one of the numerous seating areas and once again enjoy breathtaking views across the Wälzebach valley and into the distinctive low mountain landscape.
The hiking trail leads along the "Valley View" section across meadows and fields back towards the Löwenstein castle ruins and along the "Forest Path" back to the hiking parking lot at the recreational pond.
Other entry options:
