This route follows the Kellerwaldsteig through the structurally rich floodplain in the Spitzegrund.

Route 2 follows the Kellerwaldsteig through the structurally rich meadow in the Spitzegrund. The destination is the Jägersburg. There are no remains of the former hunting lodge, but the former castle garden is now designated as a natural monument. We continue to the Süntel beech trees, which form bizarre tree shapes with their twisted and overgrown branches.

Our tip

It's worth looking out for the Süntel beech trees along the way. These grow more in width than in height. Twisting growth is typical.
