Waldeck Switzerland stretches between Dalwigksthal, Niederorke, and Fürstenberg. The hiking trail of the same name leads through forests, meadows, and along the Orke and Heimbach streams.

The Waldeck Switzerland hiking trail is characterized by its diverse landscape. It runs between Dalwigksthal and Fürstenberg through the wild and romantic valleys of the Orke and Heimbach rivers, offering fantastic views of the Kellerwald forest, the Sauerland region, and the Waldeck Upland with the Ettelsberg Tower.

Along the Waldeck Switzerland, you'll be surprised by a striking castle, an old palace, or impressive natural scenery. Near Dalwigksthal, the hilltop castle of Lichtenfels towers, and below Fürstenberg, Reckenberg Castle lies. Even though both historic buildings are privately owned, they are nevertheless impressive sights along the hiking trail. Numerous natural treasures are hidden in the unspoiled Orketal valley. Rare animal species such as the kingfisher, dipper, raven, and black stork live here. An enchanted path crosses a scree slope, a unique rocky biotope with gnarled trees and wonderful views of the Orketal valley.

Three mountain huts and various rest areas along the Waldeck Switzerland offer numerous opportunities for a picnic.

The Waldeck Switzerland can be started with entrances at the Orketal hiking car park in Dalwigksthal and at the Heimbach hiking car park near Fürstenberg.

Tip: A shortcut allows for two shorter routes. Starting from the "Heimbach" hiking car park, you reach the alternative route to the Lichtenfels Panorama Trail after approximately 3 km. Following this route, after approximately 300 m, you reach a footbridge that allows you to cross the Orke River, shortening the route to approximately 9,8 km. Starting from the "Orketal" hiking car park, you reach the footbridge in the Orketal valley after approximately 2,3 km, cross it, and follow the alternative route in the opposite direction. Here, the route is shortened to 11,5 km. A map reference is provided with the images.
